1.1. About the Global Teacher Campus Platform#
Welcome to documentation for the Global Teacher Campus (GTC), a flagship program sponsored and developed by UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition.
GTC is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to empowering educators and teachers worldwide with the tools and knowledge needed to enhance their pedagogical skills by accessing high-quality online courses, becoming course creators, and accessing a powerful platform to publish online courses and distribute knowledge at scale.
The first stage of this initiative leveraged all the previous experiences of building and running massive online courses for educators on a global scale. It delivered a pilot program that was able to showcase all the capabilities available in the platform and build an integrated online portal where courses from the platform, as well as courses from partner institutions, could be displayed and accessed by learners.
In the second stage of this project, the main goal is to reach several national entities, agencies, and educators with a compelling opportunity to harness the transformative power of these available educational technologies. The goal is to make available a comprehensive technology solution that allows them to foster innovation and amplify educational initiatives with the tools educators and learners need to reach their goals.
This stage aims to unlock the full potential of technology to enhance learning experiences and drive educational excellence.
In the following sections of this documentation, you will find all the distinct aspects of the GTC platform explored in detail.
The GTC platform integrates multiple open-source technology components carefully put together to deliver the required functionality and value.
Each technology component will be thoroughly explained, both from the perspective of the different user roles involved in their operation and the technical perspective, as required by a specialized team to adopt, and leverage these technologies independently.
Furthermore, you will find complementary learning resources with supplementary information about the different technology pieces that are leveraged by the GTC platform, such as the Open edX platform and its diverse applications.
